Memphis rapper NLE Choppa captivated a group of preschoolers on Wednesday morning, but not through his usual music. Instead, he shared a story from his upcoming children’s book at Porter-Leath in South Memphis.
The book, titled Cricket Stop Cricking, is a project by Bryson Potts, the rapper’s real name. Choppa explained that his goal with the book is to convey a simple yet powerful message to children.
“One thing I realize with children’s movies and books is that they always carry a clear and easy-to-understand message,” said Potts.
Choppa emphasized that the book encourages kindness and being mindful of signs, which he believes could even be signs from God. He hopes his book will inspire children to embrace learning and good behavior.
“I’m going to be 100% honest with you. I feel like books like this can open the palate to becoming open to learning and things of this nature,” Choppa said. “The moral of the story is to be kind to other people and take heed of signs.”
The rapper shared that the inspiration for the book came while he was in the studio recording music. He also noted that the book emphasizes the importance of staying humble, something he values deeply.
“I’ve had a lot of success, but I always make sure to return to Memphis and be a humble influence for the kids here,” Choppa said.
The book is set to be released in August, just in time for the new school year.
