In a significant move to promote inclusive education, the Basic Education Department has issued a clear directive stating that children without an Aadhaar card will not be denied admission for the academic year 2025-26.
This decision follows concerns raised by parents, who reported that some schools were refusing to admit children who were of the required age but had not yet completed Aadhaar registration.
Praveen Kumar Tiwari, an official from the Prayagraj Basic Education Authority (BSA), took immediate action after receiving these complaints. He instructed all Block Education Officers (BEOs) to ensure that any child meeting the age requirement is admitted to the correct class without delay.
Tiwari also emphasized that schools found refusing admission due to the lack of an Aadhaar card would face strict penalties. He warned that principals, headmasters, and other school staff involved in such actions would be held accountable.
“Refusing admission based on the lack of an Aadhaar card is not only a violation of the right to education but also goes against efforts to make education accessible for all,” Tiwari stated.
In addition, as part of the ongoing “School Chalo Abhiyan” initiative, the Basic Education Authority has instructed BEOs to ensure that all children within their jurisdiction are admitted to government schools. BEOs have also been directed to update new admission details in a designated Google Sheet by 4 pm each day.
This move underscores the government’s commitment to providing every child with access to education, eliminating unnecessary bureaucratic barriers.
