McLennan Community College (MCC) is expanding its Kids College Summer Academies this year with four new programs designed to keep children engaged and learning during the summer break.
The new offerings include a Fire Academy, Law Enforcement Academy, Veterinary Technology Academy, and Healthcare Academy. Each one-day camp will give children between the ages of 5 and 12 the chance to explore real-world careers in a hands-on and exciting way.
According to MCC, the camps are designed to keep kids “not just busy, but inspired.” Participants will get to suit up with Waco firefighters and learn fire safety, meet SWAT officers and explore the world of law enforcement, care for animals alongside veterinary technology instructors, and learn about the tools and compassion behind today’s healthcare workers.
“These programs reflect MCC’s commitment to building strong community connections,” the college said in a statement. “They also aim to introduce young learners to college and career opportunities at an early age. Industry professionals will share their training and career stories and give students a look at the equipment and vehicles they use.”
Jasmine Kirk, MCC’s Coordinator of Community Programs, said the goal is to help children dream big about their futures. “The Kids College Career Academies were created to give local kids the chance to explore career paths, connect with real industry leaders, and discover the exciting programs offered at MCC — all while having fun.”
Each academy will be held once a month in June and July. Classes will run from 9 a.m. to noon and cost $79 per child. Space is limited.
