A music teacher at Oakstead Elementary School in Land O’ Lakes was arrested on Monday in connection with child pornography.
Joseph Watson has been charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, two counts of promoting child pornography, and two counts of unlawful use of a two-way device.
In a message to parents, Oakstead Principal Clare Ennis assured families that law enforcement confirmed the charges were unrelated to Watson’s role as a teacher. She added that the school acted swiftly to ensure Watson was removed from campus and had no further contact with students.
“I fully understand how distressing this news may be, and we will provide support to students and staff,” Ennis said.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Florida Department of Law Enforcement at (800) 226-1140.
“The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority,” said district spokesperson Toni Zetzsche.
Jessica Wright, the Pasco County school board member representing District 4, which includes Oakstead Elementary, expressed her sadness over the arrest but emphasized the importance of addressing such matters openly.
“When we learn that someone could harm children, we will ensure they are held accountable,” she said.
