Marino Appointed New Director of Trumbull County Education Service Center

Marino, who has served as the assistant director of curriculum and instruction at the Trimble County Education Service Center since 2010, will succeed Michael Hanshaw. Hanshaw will retire on July 31st. ​

Marino said, “I am honored and very grateful to have the opportunity to serve as the next director of the Trumbull County Education Service Center.” It is my honor to work with such dedicated educators, administrators and community partners. ​

Marino also said that he looks forward to building on the existing solid foundation and “working with everyone to drive Tranbert County forward and continue to create success for our students, schools and communities.” ​

The management committee approved a five-year contract signed with Marino, with 260 working days per year and an annual salary of 139,500 US dollars. ​

Marino holds a bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree in education and management. Before joining the Trumbull County Education Service in 2010, he worked as a teacher in schools in Warren and Niles, served as the principal in Niles for nine years, and also held the position of curriculum director. ​

Hanshaw has been engaged in education for 40 years and has served as the director of the Trumbull County Education Service Center for the past 15 years. He said, “It’s time to retire.” In 2009, Hanshaw began to serve as the director of the center. He called this position “truly an honor of my career”. ​

At the meeting on Monday, the committee also accepted the retirement application of Karlotta Hitz, the human resources director, whose retirement date is July 31. Hitz has been working at this center since 2000. ​

The committee has appointed Rachel Mixite as the human resources director. The contract is for one year, with 216 working days per year, effective from August 1st, and the annual salary is $86,247. Mixite is currently serving as the Human Resources coordinator and will leave on July 31. ​

In addition, Stacey Foster, the financial director, stated at the meeting that starting from July, the reimbursements for employees’ training, miles and meetings will be made through direct deposits. She said that this would help save on mailing costs and the cost of paper checks. ​

In other matters, the committee: The agreement signed with Kennedy High School in Warren to provide hearing screening services was approved. ​ The pilot project with Joseph Bagel Kindergarten has been approved to adopt the “Preparation for Advancement” benchmark education curriculum in the 2025-2026 academic year.
