Carson High Students Celebrate ‘Day of the Child’ with Community Event

by Beatrice

Carson High School hosted its third annual “Day of the Child” on Saturday, inviting local families to enjoy a day of play, learning, and community connection.

This year, students from the school’s early childhood education program took the lead by creating and running their own activity booths. Families with preschool and kindergarten-aged children were welcomed into the High Tech Center, where they could take part in hands-on games and crafts. Parents also had the chance to learn more about educational programs offered by the Carson City School District.

“The kids are doing great,” said early childhood education teacher Kendra Tuttle. “We had a 92% pass rate for their end-of-program exams. That means 92% of the students earned nine college credits, which is a huge achievement for them.”

The event also included a special recognition ceremony. Superintendent Andrew Feuling signed certificates for students who expressed an interest in pursuing careers in education. These students may one day return as employees within the district.

“It’s exciting,” Tuttle said. “We’re taking a true homegrown approach to building high-quality education in Carson City.”

Sophomore Brooklyn Martin was one of the students running a booth. She said the event helped her and her classmates learn how children think and interact with activities. Her table featured fingerpainting.

“In class, we learn how to help both teachers and children understand how the brain works,” Martin said. “We also teach them the motor skills they need as they grow.”

This year’s event theme was inspired by the popular children’s book The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

“Today is all about play and joy,” Tuttle said. “Everywhere you look, you see smiles. It’s wonderful.”
