The Alamo is undergoing significant improvements.
The old Alamo Hall and its annex are being transformed into the Texas Cavaliers Alamo Education Center. This will be a large, modern learning space designed for children from across Texas.
The new center will feature an outdoor learning pavilion, a theater for orientations and lectures, interactive classrooms, and a lively agricultural garden.
Students of all ages will have the chance to engage in hands-on STEAM activities and explore history through science and art. There will also be a special area for early learners.
The center is scheduled to open in March 2026.
Alexander Rivard, the Alamo’s Director of Education, shared his excitement about the new resources coming to San Antonio.
“More improvements and changes have taken place at the Alamo in the past few years than in the last 50 or 100 years,” Rivard said. “Thousands of students visit the Alamo every year for field trips or with their families. Now, they will experience a world-class visitor center and education center, complete with augmented reality. This adds a powerful new way to connect with the historic site.”
Just before the final beam was placed on the center, 3NEWS spoke with Kate Rogers, Executive Director of The Alamo Trust. She said this new facility will be especially important for kids visiting from places like Coastal Bend for the first time.
“We host about 140,000 school-age children each year,” Rogers explained. “Today, as the school year ends, about 1,000 kids are visiting, but until now, they never had a dedicated place to call home. They had nowhere to sit in the shade or eat lunch comfortably. The Texas Cavaliers Education Center will change that. It will become a true home for the children who come to see us every year.”
