A special education initiative aimed at migrant workers’ children has yielded successful results, according to District Collector Pamela Satpathy. Speaking at the Athmeeya Sammelan held on Thursday at the Collectorate Auditorium, she said the drive provided schooling to around 500 migrant children in Karimnagar.
The programme was launched with the goal of bringing children of migrant labourers closer to education. The district administration and education department worked together to start special classes in February. Sixteen selected schools hosted the programme, with specially appointed teachers providing lessons to the children.
With strong support from brick kiln owners, the district provided free transportation and uniforms to the students. In addition, the children received regular health check-ups, vaccinations, and dental care.
Children from Odisha were given textbooks from their home state to ensure continuity in their studies. School bags, stationery, nutritious meals, and even self-defence training were also provided as part of the initiative.
Collector Satpathy praised the dedication of teachers. She said their efforts helped the children develop an interest in school. She expressed hope that once the children return to their home states, they will continue their education. She encouraged parents and brick kiln owners to support the children’s learning journey, adding that education could help them reach great heights in the future.
As part of the event, Collector Satpathy presented appreciation certificates to the brick kiln owners and felicitated the teachers. The programme concluded with cultural performances by the children, which drew applause from the audience.
