Many tennis players gain attention for their skills on the court. However, some do more than just compete. Félix Auger-Aliassime, a young Canadian tennis star, is also working to improve education and sports opportunities for children in Togo.
Helping Children in Togo
For Auger-Aliassime, supporting children in Togo is very personal. He feels a strong connection between his tennis career and his charity work. Through the #FAAPointsForChange program, every time he wins a point in a match, a donation is made to help children in Togo. This means that when Auger-Aliassime wins, the children benefit as well.
Auger-Aliassime’s family ties deepen his commitment to Togo. His father is from Togo and works as a tennis coach. He runs The Aliassime Tennis Academy. Félix began playing tennis at age five with his father. His father made sure Félix learned not only tennis skills but also values like hard work, perseverance, and humility. These values remain important to Félix today.
The #FAAPointsForChange Program
In 2020, Auger-Aliassime launched the #FAAPointsForChange program. He partnered with BNP Paribas and the NGO CARE to make a difference. The program aims to improve schools by building new sports facilities. This effort helps children learn important values through sports while also improving their education.
Since it began on January 3, 2020 — the day of Auger-Aliassime’s first match in the ATP Cup — the program has renovated 10 schools. Over 2,500 children in Togo have benefited, with 60% of them being girls.
How the Program Works
The donations depend on Auger-Aliassime’s performance in tennis matches. For every point he wins, he donates $5. BNP Paribas matches this with an additional $15. Together, this adds up to $20 per point. The money goes to EduChange, a CARE program that supports young people in the Kara region of Togo.
Each $20 helps create about five educational support groups. These groups focus on children’s rights, education, and sports. They provide school supplies, training, medical and psychological help, and sports and academic equipment.
Auger-Aliassime’s dedication is clear. BNP Paribas reports that he scored 4,904 points in 2020, 4,969 points in 2021, and 6,613 points in 2022. In 2025 alone, he has already won 2,258 points. His success on the court directly benefits children in Togo.
Visiting Togo
In 2022, Auger-Aliassime visited Togo during his winter break. He toured schools, met teachers and students, and spoke with community leaders. He also took part in local sports activities. The visit helped him see firsthand how the program is changing lives and gave him ideas for future projects.
Expanding Support for Higher Education
In early 2025, Auger-Aliassime expanded his efforts. He now supports higher education for rural students in Togo who cannot afford college. He plans to award 30 scholarships to students at the University of Lomé. These scholarships will cover tuition and living costs.
The King Baudouin Foundation will help manage the scholarship program. This foundation ensures the funds are used properly.
A Lasting Impact
