Government leaders have emphasized education as the cornerstone of efforts to empower Africa’s youth and drive long-term economic growth.
The message took center stage at this year’s Africa Day celebrations at Freedom Park in Pretoria, where officials linked education to the broader vision of building a united, equitable, and sustainable Africa.
Under the theme “Building the Africa We Want Through Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability,” the event featured cultural performances, music, and speeches as South Africans joined the continent in marking the annual observance.
This year also marks the 11th anniversary of Africa Month, which highlights unity, heritage, and sustainable development.
Education Beyond the Classroom
Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko stressed that learning extends far beyond traditional classrooms.
“Education doesn’t only happen in schools,” she said. “It happens in theaters, libraries, and sports fields—through preserving our indigenous languages and cultures.”
She called for continued government investment in education to nurture the next generation of African leaders.
“We must equip our children with knowledge and skills to shape a brighter future for the continent,” she added.
The event reinforced education as a vital tool for Africa’s transformation, aligning with broader goals of economic and social progress.
