The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, has declared May 25–31 as Early Childhood Educators Week in Newfoundland and Labrador. The announcement was made in partnership with the Association of Early Childhood Educators Newfoundland and Labrador (AECENL).
Minister Davis and Skye Taylor, AECENL’s Executive Director, signed a formal proclamation to mark the occasion. The week recognizes the vital role early childhood educators (ECEs) play in shaping young lives through their skill, dedication, and compassion.
“Early childhood educators are the foundation of our children’s learning journey,” said Minister Davis. “This week is our chance to celebrate their hard work and the positive impact they make every day.”
Scholarship Awarded to Outstanding Student
Minister Davis also congratulated Sarah Peters of St. John’s, the 2025 recipient of the Joanne Juteau Early Childhood Education Scholarship, awarded by AECENL. Peters is completing her Early Childhood Education diploma at the College of the North Atlantic with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Supporting the Early Learning Workforce
The Provincial Government is actively working to recruit and retain more ECEs. Currently, over 2,000 educators work across the province, with hundreds more training in early childhood education programs.
Additionally, Newfoundland and Labrador has extended the Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement, ensuring $10-a-day child care remains available until 2031.
