Glasgow Clyde College has released a new children’s book to support parents who are returning to education. The book, Little Life Changing Stuff, tells the story of a mother and son navigating college life together.
The college, which aims to be one of Scotland’s most family-friendly campuses, has introduced several measures to help student-parents balance studies and childcare. These include baby-changing facilities, bottle warmers, and highchairs in cafeterias. Parents can also access funded nursery care during classes and attend finance workshops to help with course costs.
Easing the Transition for Parents
David Marshall, Assistant Principal for Student Experience, said returning to education can be “daunting” for parents. “Juggling parenting, studies, and childcare costs is a big challenge,” he said. “We want to make this transition as smooth as possible.”
The college also plans to offer an online guide to family-friendly activities in the area. Its libraries will include a children’s section, allowing parents to borrow books for kids of all ages.
Student-Parents Share Their Experience
Jamie-Lee, 19, a social care student at the Anniesland campus, chose Glasgow Clyde College for its supportive environment. “I needed childcare help, and the college made it easy to find information,” she said. “The nursery staff are fantastic—my daughter loves them, and they’ve been really supportive.”
She added, “I’d definitely recommend this college to other parents. It’s a welcoming place that meets everyone’s needs.”
The book, illustrated by alumna Esmé Boyle, is part of the college’s wider effort to create an inclusive and nurturing campus for families.
