For the first time, Ukraine will formally recognize the status and work of Ukrainian educational centers abroad. This announcement was made by a representative of the Office of the President.
Iryna Vereshchuk explained that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has often discussed the education of Ukrainian children living abroad during his meetings with Ukrainian communities around the world.
Vereshchuk also noted that in February, the Verkhovna Rada passed changes to the law called “On Complete General Secondary Education.” These changes guarantee that every child’s educational achievements gained abroad will be officially recognized by Ukraine. The new rules will take effect on June 15.
Before that date, however, the Cabinet of Ministers needs to approve a resolution that will set the exact procedure for recognizing foreign education results. A draft of this resolution has already been prepared.
The law will also acknowledge informal education in the Ukrainian language that children receive overseas. This includes lessons at Saturday and Sunday schools.
Vereshchuk highlighted, “This is the first time in Ukraine’s history that the state officially recognizes the status and activities of Ukrainian educational centers abroad.”
