Crowder College is hosting a four-week summer camp designed to introduce young students to a variety of technical career paths.
The camp is open to children who have just completed 5th, 6th, or 7th grade. It is being held at the college’s Technical Education Center, where students can choose from six different programs: diesel technology, agriculture, construction, criminal justice, career exploration, and computer science.
This week, students from Seneca, East Newton, and Diamond are attending the camp.
Cindy Brown, Public Information Director at Crowder College, said the camp is both fun and educational.
“Summer school isn’t what it used to be,” Brown said. “It doesn’t matter what grades the kids made. What we do is include English and math in the activities. They’re learning, but they don’t even realize it.”
She explained that while students take part in hands-on career experiences, they are also practicing core academic skills.
Next week, kids from Neosho and McDonald County are scheduled to join the camp.
