The Isle of Palms Recreation Department is inviting children to discover the wildlife of the Lowcountry this summer through a new birding program designed especially for young nature lovers.
The program gives children a chance to enjoy outdoor learning while exploring the birds of the region in a fun and engaging way.
Participants will be guided by Charles Donnelly, a seasoned birder and the owner of Holy City Birding. Donnelly will teach kids how to spot birds by sight and recognize their calls by sound. The goal is to help children connect with nature while building real birding skills.
In addition to the four in-person sessions, every child enrolled will receive a one-year membership to the Holy City Birding Kids Birding Program. The membership includes monthly lessons featuring a different bird each time, encouraging kids to get outdoors to “Look, Listen, and Learn.”
The birding program is open to children ages 7 to 12 and will take place on June 4, 11, 18, and 25. Sessions will run from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Isle of Palms Recreation Center.
