Louisiana Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley recently visited Claiborne Elementary to highlight the state’s educational progress.
In 2019, Louisiana ranked 49th in education, but it has since made significant improvements, now ranking 32nd. Dr. Brumley expressed pride in the state’s advancement but acknowledged there is still work to be done.
“It’s really good to see Louisiana making educational progress. We’re pleased with that, but we’re not satisfied. There’s more work to do,” Brumley said. “I credit the teachers across the state for their daily efforts in helping students.”
Dr. Brumley emphasized the importance of various efforts that have contributed to the state’s educational progress. He encouraged parents to stay actively involved in their children’s education by regularly connecting with schools and teachers.
“I always encourage parents to make contact with the school and stay connected. We want parents to be in the driver’s seat of their child’s education. Educational freedom must expand across Louisiana,” Dr. Brumley explained.
He also stressed the need for state and local leaders, along with parents, to take the lead in shaping education.
“I believe it’s best for local leaders and parents to guide their children’s education, not bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. Our focus will remain on teaching kids to read, do math, appreciate their country, support teachers, and strengthen parental rights. If we stay on this path, we will see continued success,” he said.
In addition to Louisiana’s improvements, Dr. Brumley shared that a recent study revealed Louisiana is the only state where the average student has recovered from the pandemic. He credited the recovery to the collaboration between parents and teachers in ensuring students receive a quality education.
