AIS, Thailand’s leading telecommunications provider, has launched a new campaign titled “Turning E-Waste into Internet for Kids.” The initiative aims to provide educational opportunities for children in remote areas by transforming discarded electronics into internet access. For every piece of e-waste processed, AIS will donate 1GB of internet to schools in underserved communities. The campaign is part of the broader Thailand Green Energy Green Network project, which focuses on enhancing learning and improving the quality of life for students in highland regions.
From now until December 31, 2025, individuals can drop off their e-waste at any AIS store or one of over 2,700 collection points across the country. These locations include more than 235 partner organizations participating in the initiative.
The campaign will initially be piloted in six remote schools under the Thailand Green Energy Green Network Schools project. This project is a collaboration between AIS, GULF, and the Highland Research and Development Institute (HRDI).
The schools set to benefit from the initiative include:
- Ban Nong Bua School (Ban Dok Mai Sod Branch) in Tha Song Yang, Tak
- Hilltribe Thai Community Learning Center “Mae Fah Luang” (Ban Moko Poke) in Tha Song Yang, Tak
- Hilltribe Thai Community Learning Center “Mae Fah Luang” (Ban Khun Kong) in Mae Tha, Lamphun
- Ban Mae Khong School in Omkoi, Chiang Mai
- Ban Mae Mong Yao School in Mae Suai, Chiang Rai
- Ban Mae Tola School in Sop Moei, Mae Hong Son
By converting e-waste into internet access, AIS hopes to bridge the digital divide and support education in Thailand’s most isolated communities. The campaign also promotes environmental sustainability by encouraging the proper disposal of electronic waste.
This initiative reflects AIS’s commitment to using technology and innovation to create positive social and environmental impacts. It also aligns with the company’s broader mission to empower communities through connectivity and education.
